Hasta ese momento Todd había estado trabajando con su banda Human Fortress. Más tarde Todd conoció al ex vocalista de Jaded Heart, Michael Bormann que se unió para dar forma a “The Gift Of Life”. Todd y Michael han trabajado duro, adaptando los riffs de guitarra y teclados, el resultado es un interesante cóctel de Rock Melódico con muchas influencias, sin dejar de ser contemporáneo en su estilo. El resultado final, “The Gift Of Life” es un excelente ejemplo de perseverancia y talento excepcional dentro del mundo del Rock. Ciertos toques cercanos al Modern Rock, se pueden apreciar en los comienzos del tema que da título al álbum, “The Gift Of Life” un tema que presenta continuos cambios de ritmo, pasando por la relajación de teclados y la potencia adquirida durante el estribillo. Como es costumbre Michael Bormann realiza una labor a las voces realmente impecable, notándose perfectamente en este primer corte del debut de The Trophy. Dentro de una línea más melódica tenemos “When Nightmares Wake Me Up” un tema donde la letra del mismo, nos transmite una atmósfera de misterio y romanticismo, aderezada por unas melodías englobadas en el A.O.R más contemporáneo. Otro de los elementos sobresalientes en “When Nightmares Wake Me Up” son los teclados que se adhieren durante prácticamente todo el tema. Los primeros coros de “Get The Cup” nos envolverán en uno de los temas con más energía positiva de “The Gift Of Life”. “Get The Cup” es la canción perfecta para ocasiones de estado de ánimo por los suelos, consiguiendo revitalizarte por completo tras la primera escucha. “Get The Cup” sigue manteniendo esos pequeños arreglos modernos como podíamos apreciar en el primer corte “The Gift Of Life”. Guitarras pesadas y potentes servirán de antesala a “Justice”, melodía en estado puro interpretada por una de las mejores voces del género, como es Michael Bormann. “Justice” presenta un ritmo frenético el cual se puede comprobar en las líricas del mismo, una auténtica reivindicación en toda regla. Nos adentraremos en el mejor tema sin ninguna duda de “The Gift Of Life” , “Rescue Me” presentando un formato de medio tiempo, que progresivamente irá ascendiendo en intensidad, combinándose con unos perfectos coros angelicales durante el estribillo. “Rescue Me” es de esas canciones que te transmiten un sentimiento especial. Llegamos prácticamente al ecuador del debut de The Trophy con “Can’t Get Out Of My Head” un tema donde más prevalencia existe del Modern Rock, no solo por el comienzo tan atmosférico sino también por las guitarras las cuales presentan tonos alejados del Rock Melódico. Volveremos al A.O.R característico de Bormann en “The Shades Of Grey” un tema que no dejará indiferente a ningún seguidor de este gran vocalista. “The Shades Of Grey” posee una estructura semi-acústica que nos recuerda por momentos a los últimos trabajos en solitario del Alemán. “The Gift Of Life” es un álbum como he dicho anteriormente, que alterna los sonidos más modernos como ciertas distorsiones en las voces, con la melodía más enraizada en el Rock Melódico de los clásicos Jaded Heart, un ejemplo bien claro de esto es “Gloomy Days”, el cual posee diversos contrapuntos en su música, desde los efectos sonoros hasta la voz de Bormann. La calidad de produción en “The Gift Of Life” se puede apreciar de forma clara en “Liar” un tema provisto de potentes guitarras adulcoradas por diferentes efectos sonoros que hacen de “Liar” un tema intermedio entre lo moderno y clásico en cuanto a estructura musical se refiere. Una línea muy parecida sigue “The Way I Am” , pero variándose más a menudo con teclados simulando hacia un sonido orquestal y grandilocuente, apoderado en parte por el estribillo coral. En la recta final nos daremos de bruces con una muralla de Hard Rock potencial en “On These Wings”, posiblemente con otro de los temas más sobresalientes del debut de The Trophy. Estamos ante un proyecto bastante interesante, creado por uno de los genios del Hard Rock Melódico como es Michael Bormann. “The Gift Of Life” quiere acariciar las esferas más contemporáneas de la música, pero siempre manteniendo la melodía que tan bien sabe llevar a cabo el vocalista Alemán. El debut de The Trophy es un valor seguro que ningún seguidor del Rock debería perderse por nada del mundo, y esperemos que tenga continuidad, porque la primera entrega queda perfectamente comprobado que merece mucho la pena. | |

Michael Schenker has reunited with original MSG vocalist Gary Barden. After releasing one rocking CD, the duo have now released an acoustic project titled Gipsy Lady. Michael has released several acoustic, instrumental albums in the Thank You series. This is the first time he has allowed someone to put words to his acoustic renderings. Barden\'s voice is deep and hypnotic as the music contains both soothing acoustic meanderings and Medieval, eerie landscapes. Opening track \"Lost\" sets the tone for the entire performance. \"Dance Lady Gipsy\" could have been worked up with some lutes and flutes and confused with a Blackmore\'s Night track. \"Fight For Freedom\" probably could have been rocked up and saved for an electric guitar album. There is a very patriotic chorus that would be in the same category as Judas Priest\'s \"United\" if done with a full band. \"Hungry\" works the best on the album. This is a heartfelt ballad that shows the best that can be expected when this type of collaboration takes place. As interesting as the acoustic collaboration is, the best two tracks are the two instrumentals that Schenker includes, titled \"El Grande\" and \"The Journey.\" At the end of the day, this is a must own for Schenker nuts who have to have everything that he has ever made. Casual fans will also find it interesting. Barden shows a new side to his musical vocabulary and Michael is an amazing guitarist, acoustic or electric. | |
